Restrictive versus Liberal Fluid Therapy in Major Abdominal Surgery (RELIEF Trial)

The RELIEF trial, a collaboration with ANZCA, investigates the effectiveness of liberal and restrictive fluid regimens. The optimal fluid regimen targets for patients undergoing major abdominal surgery are based on rationales that are not supported by strong evidence. A large, definitive clinical trial evaluating perioperative fluid replacement in major surgery is required.
