Our educational efforts are anchored by our residency and multiple fellowship programs and are founded in the firm belief that every aspect of the department is enhanced by having the strongest possible training programs.

Unique Learning Opportunities

A unique advantage of our training environment is the ability to take advantage of our affiliated organizations, creating the tri-institutional strength of combining three different world-class institutions: NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, The Hospital for Special Surgery, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Our residency is firmly tri-institutional, as is the Pain Medicine fellowship.

Our highly competitive Van Poznak Research Scholarship is a 6-year clinician-investigator training program that forms the core of our investigator development pipeline. To date, graduates of the Van Poznak program have attained 100% success in obtaining funding through FAER or equivalent. Up to two Van Poznak Scholars can enter through a separate PGY-1 match.

The Global Health Initiative in the Department of Anesthesiology takes an innovative approach to global health and human rights education, research, and solution building.

We also offer opportunities for medical student education, and Grand Rounds and other programs in Continuing Medical Education.
