On October 1, 2013, the Department of Anesthesiology and the Pain Medicine Center welcomed a new faculty member, Lisa R. Witkin, MD. She joins the Weill Cornell faculty after completing an Anesthesiology Residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and a pain management fellowship at the New York Presbyterian Hospital Tri-Institutional Fellowship Program (Weill Cornell Medical College, Hospital for Special Surgery, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center).
Dr. Witkin is the seventh member of the current Pain Medicine Center faculty. Led by Medical Director Neel Mehta, MD, the Weill Cornell Pain Medicine Center now has three practice locations: the main practice in the Weill Greenberg Center, the Westside Practice on 2315 Broadway, and the new Downtown Practice, on 156 William St., across from the NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital. The Downtown Practice will be Dr. Witkin's primary practice location.
Among Dr. Witkin's first tasks after joining the Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology faculty was delivering a public talk on the evening of October 3. Speaking at the Myra Mahon Patient Resource Center, Dr. Witkin presented a talk entitled, "Getting Older Doesn't Have to Hurt." She addressed an audience of both medical professionals and the general public, and spoke about the conditions of spinal stenosis and low back pain, and the therapeutic treatments used to alleviate these conditions. She discussed traditional and complementary medicine, as well as the importance of diet and exercise in pain management. The talk was attended by about forty guests.
