Dr. Gunisha Kaur, instructor in anesthesiology, is the recipient of a Research in Education Grant from the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) for her proposal, “A novel model for global health education in anesthesiology.”
The two-year, $100,000 grant will fund the development of a web-based global health curriculum for anesthesiologists.
“Global health is becoming such a relevant field for anesthesiologists,” said Dr. Kaur. “Our idea is to standardize education in global health just like we would for neuroanesthesia or cardiac anesthesia.”
Dr. Kaur is the director of Weill Cornell Anesthesiology's Global Health Initiative. Mentors for the project are Dr. Kane Pryor, associate professor of clinical anesthesiology, and Dr. Madelon Finkel, professor of clinical healthcare policy and research at Weill Cornell Medicine.
Since 1986, FAER has provided research grant funding for anesthesiologists and anesthesiology trainees to gain additional training in basic science, clinical and translational health services and education research, according to its website. This spring, awards were made to 13 anesthesiologists from 11 different medical centers in the United States.
