Drs. Skubas and Kaur Chair Panel Discussions at NWAC

The 7th Networking World Anesthesia Convention (NWAC) took place in New York on April 20-23. Dr. Nikolaos Skubas, professor of clinical anesthesiology and of anesthesiology in clincial cardiothoracic surgery, and Dr. Gunisha Kaur, instructor in anesthesiology and director of the  department's Global Health Initiative, participated in the convention.

Dr. Skubas chaired NWAC's multidisciplinary series titled "State of the Art 2016: The Patient with Heart Failure for Emergency Surgery." During the session, international experts discussed current approaches for the patient in heart failure. In his presentation, Dr. Skubas compared the use of point of care ultrasound to the stethescope during the preoperative assessment of heart failure patients.

Dr. Kaur chaired a panel discussion on anesthesia in the developing world, in which panelists shared diverse perspectives on the question "is the developed world doing enough to help?" Dr. Kaur discussed the impact of biosocial factors on healthcare in the developing world as a panel member.

NWAC is a global educational organization with a worldwide presence, independent of transnational politics, international conflicts and political disagreements, according to its website. It is dedicated to training doctors and other health care professionals around the world.
